September 8-12

MATH

This week we are finishing up our unit on decimals (Chapters 1-2) We will begin the week with a lesson re-teaching some of the concepts from lesson 2.1 that caused problems for students last week. We used 100 grids to color decimal numbers last week and students were asked to take their work home to “teach it” to someone there as review. We will talk about ways to look at a standard decimal (2.05) and write it in word form. We will also practice looking at an expanded form of a decimal (.4 + .05 + .007) and writing the standard or word form (.457, or four hundred fifty-seven thousandths).

In lesson 2.2 (Tues) we will discover that some decimals are equivalent (such as .5 = .500)

In lesson 2.3 (Wed) will we practice ordering and comparing decimals.

Due to the need to re-teach, we will have our decimal test over chapters 1 and 2 on Thursday. Students may take books home at any time to review for a test.

On Firday, we will begin chapter 3 with a lesson on rounding numbers.

WORD STUDY

We are continuing our review of the first 200 most frequently used words. Students have completed puzzles to review these words. Today (Mondday) they have a puzzle to complete and turn in tomorrow with the Word Find from last week. Both are due Tuesday.
