MATH
Students will be taking their Chapter 4 math test on Monday, the 13th. On Tuesday, we will be working on the Acuity Test in Math covering the skills we have covered to this point. This test will give us data concerning our strengths for MAP and areas that we may need to re-visit for further insturction. As soon as we complete the Acuity test, we will go on to Chapter 5 in our texts. This chapter teaches skills relating to collecting, recording, and interpreting data on graphs and charts.
WORD STUDY
Last week, students took their first Word Origin test over the Latin/Greek roots that have numerical meanings. We will begin collecting a new set of Word Origin words this week from the root foli- meaning “leaf”. Students will take notes and practice the meanings of several English words that we derive from this root:
folic acid
portfolio
foliage
foil
bifoliate
Last week we also took a final High Frequency Word test over 25 of the first 400 most commonly used words in English. Students should be bringing home the graded tests so that parents can see strengths and weaknesses. All students should be spelling these words correctly in all written work. They have spelling dictionaries to use as a reference as needed.
i-TIME
This week we are working on several skills involving strategies to use Before, During, and After reading. Students will be using these strategies as they read for information in their Scholastic News. The topic for study during these reading lessons is government and the upcoming election. This may spark some conversations at home!! Students have asked to take a class poll about the preferred candidates, so we may be doing that soon and see how accurate our poll can predict our new President/Vice President!
