Math
Tuesday–We talked about how to use Mental Math the do a long division problem. We also discussed the fact, that more often, you would use paper and pencil. We listened to a song to help us recall the steps for division and practiced a few problems.

Wednesday–We will finish the work from Monday and do a lesson on Interpreting the remainder. Lesson 9.5. This is a lesson to help students see how remainders have an effect on their understnading of a story problem.

Thursday–We will do Lesson 10.1 and learn about patterns in Division before moving on to two-digit Division.

Friday–We will discuss using compatible numbers to estimate two-digit division problems.

We are going to move on to double digit division, and then do a few lessons on disvision using decimals before we test over this unit. We will probably test over Division the first week of February.

Tuesday–Dictation

Wednesday–New Word Origin Vocabulary for the roots “astra-” and “stell”

Thursday–Practice new Vocabulary

Friday–Notes over the next five Core Words.

i-TIME

Today we watched the inauguration of our 44th President. During i-TIME we had a lesson on using a KWL chart as a stretegy for Before, During, and After Reading to help with cmprehension. Students wrote things they “Knew” about President Obama, and wrote a few questions about things they “Wanted” to Know. We also read a poem about our 44th President.

Wednesday–We will practice oral fluency by reading the poem from Tuesday out loud. We will read a book about President Obama.

Thursday–We will work on reading skills from the book we are reading about the President.

Friday–Continue reading skills using same book. The pictures below show students sharing their ideas and questions during i-TIME.
